The C5 and C5d instances in sizes 12xlarge, 24xlarge, and metal utilize custom 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Cascade Lake 8275CL), which feature a sustained all-core Turbo frequency of 3.6 GHz and a single-core Turbo frequency of up to 3.9 GHz
Other C5 instance sizes use either the 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable Processors (Cascade Lake 8223CL) or the 1st Generation Intel Xeon Platinum 8000 series (Skylake 8124M) processors, offering a sustained all-core Turbo frequency of up to 3.4 GHz and a single-core Turbo frequency of up to 3.5 GHz
A new, larger 24xlarge instance size provides 96 vCPUs, 192 GiB of memory, and optional 3.6 TB of local NVMe-based SSD storage
Instances require HVM AMIs with drivers for ENA and NVMe
C5d instances include local NVMe-based SSDs that are directly attached to the host server, offering block-level storage that persists for the instance’s lifespan
The Elastic Network Adapter (ENA) enables C5 instances to achieve up to 25 Gbps of network throughput and up to 19 Gbps of dedicated bandwidth to Amazon EBS
These instances are supported by the AWS Nitro System, which integrates dedicated hardware with a lightweight hypervisor
